Core Subjects/Special Education & Head Basketball Coach

Summary Grapeland High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate educator to join our team as a Core Subjects/Special Education teacher and Head Basketball Coach. This full-time position requires a dynamic individual who can effectively teach core subjects while also providing specialized support to students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will foster an inclusive learning environment and inspire student athletes to excel both academically and athletically. Responsibilities Develop and implement engaging lesson plans for core subjects, ensuring alignment with state standards and individualized education plans (IEPs) for special education students. Assess and evaluate student progress, providing timely feedback and support to enhance learning outcomes. Collaborate with special education staff, parents, and other educators to create a supportive and inclusive educational environment. Prepare student athletes for competition by developing practice plans, teaching fundamental skills, and promoting teamwork and sportsmanship. Manage all aspects of the basketball program, including scheduling games, organizing transportation, and overseeing team logistics. Foster positive relationships with student athletes, encouraging their academic and athletic growth. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and program updates. Promote the values of discipline, commitment, and respect within the team and school community. Attend staff meetings, professional development workshops, and coaching clinics as required. Ensure compliance with all district, state, and national athletic regulations and policies. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field. Valid teaching certification in Core Subjects and Special Education. Previous experience teaching in a high school setting, preferably with students with special needs. Proven coaching experience, preferably at the high school level, with a strong understanding of basketball fundamentals and strategies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues. Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for practices and games.
