The Sr. Specialist Buyer/Planner is responsible for managing the Supply Chain activities for assigned projects, ensuring uninterrupted supply of raw materials for runs in the stainless-steel facility, Filling and Packaging. This role represents Supply Chain Management in the Project team and leads cross-functional sub teams to develop raw material planning and buying strategies, monitor detailed production planning, develop Bill of Materials and coordinate shipments of Bulk Drug Substance and Drug Product.

Duties & Responsibilities\: 

  • Ensures uninterrupted supply of materials for assigned projects as well as materials meet required quality and cost parameters.
  • Develops supply chain concepts to support strategic sourcing and strategic partnering with suppliers in close cooperation with Global Supply Chain Management.
  • Defines safety stock strategies for different material categories.
  • Provides forecasts to suppliers on a regular basis.
  • Works with cross-functional teams to develop raw material planning strategies and processes.
  • Ensures the prioritization of raw material release planning.
  • Responsible for the planning of supply chain meetings as well as performance review meetings with internal and external customers and tracks follow up of action items
  • Manages change processes related to supply chain requirements as required by customer requests, supplier change notifications or regulatory requirements.
  • Assesses impact on raw materials due to changes in the production plan and provides alternative raw material scenarios to accommodate changes within the agreed project timelines.
  • Maintains strong supplier relations, strong records, and tracking requirements pertinent to purchasing data.
  • Leads cross-functional sub teams in support of the development of the Bills of Material (BoM), working plans, process orders and Batch Record documents to ensure production of clinical material and commercial products.
  • Accountable for inventory for assigned materials.  This includes providing inventory objectives, monitoring inventory trends, and analyzing unexpected developments and deviations to meet inventory valuation goals.
  • Provides Plan versus Actual inventory analysis to Business and Contracts, Project Management and Finance as needed.
  • Represents Supply Chain Management in the Project Team.
  • Responsible for coordinating supply chain management activities, developing risk assessment and mitigation plans for raw materials.
  • Reports to management and the project teams significant material and/or supplier issues that may impact the Supply Chain in a timely manner.
  • Leads cross-functional sub teams, including Logistics and Supply Chain team members in support of buying duties for raw materials, raw material qualification, timely raw material release and final shipment of Bulk Drug Substance and Drug Product.
  • Ensures compliance with all Procurement processes in accordance with Government (cGMP) and Company Policies, Procedures, Goals and Objectives.
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of GMP, FDA and European regulations.
  • Follows all relevant department policies, procedures, SOP and other requirements during execution and act always within the BI standards/ethics policies.
  • Manages the safety stock process, minimizing risk of obsolescence if demand does not meet forecasts.
  • Ensures timely system updates in SAP.


  • Minimum of 5 years buying/planning experience preferably in a pharmaceutical industry.
  • Associate's degree with 10+ years' experience and/or Bachelor's degree with 4 years' experience.    
  • Experience using a corporate Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) including associated inventory control systems required.
  • Strong demonstrated experience with computer office programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point required. 
  • SAP experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of cGMP's strongly preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Ability to develop and improve processes based Six Sigma or LEAN methodologies (certification a plus).
  • Commercial Supply Chain strongly preferred.
  • Planning of printed material and/or medical device preferred.
